What is online learning?
At Douglas College, online learning primarily revolves around Blackboard. Teams (for classes and meetings) and Kaltura (for media creation and sharing) are commonly integrated with Blackboard to enhance the learning experience. A reliable Internet connection is essential for accessing Blackboard's web-based platform. For technical assistance regarding Blackboard issues, feel free to reach out to Information Technology Services.
What can I expect from online learning?
Instructors use Blackboard and related tools differently depending on the course format: Enhanced, Hybrid and Fully-online. Common tasks include accessing course materials, messaging instructors and classmates, submitting assignments, taking quizzes, participating in discussions, viewing grades, collaborating on group work, checking the course calendar and sharing multimedia files.
Enhanced courses use Blackboard alongside classroom instruction, while Hybrid courses blend in-person and online activities. Fully-online courses are conducted entirely online. Instructors may use Teams and Kaltura for online sessions and assignments. Additional resources are available at Blackboard Student FAQs.
