What is it used for?
Turnitin is a service used at Douglas College to check the originality of papers submitted by students. Turnitin is part of a shared service provided by BCNET and is hosted in Canada. Douglas College has a limited Turnitin licence that requires instructors to request an account.
Collection Notice
Douglas College depends on Turnitin to provide support documentation and resources for instructors and students. Turnitin Help Centre. This collection notice language should be used in every course that is deploying Turnitin.
Douglas College uses Turnitin to compare written work for similarity with other written works as part of our academic integrity strategy. Your personal information is collected by Turnitin on behalf of Douglas College under the authority of section 41.1(2) of the College and Institute Act and sections 26(c) and (e) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
In this course, you are being asked to submit your assignments to Turnitin, which will enable this service to retain your personally identifiable information on servers in Canada. Submitted assignments are included as source documents within Turnitin's reference database. Your assignments will then be reviewed for similarity with other written work.
