Instructions on using the S4650 Indigenous Gathering Place - Event Space with the self-help PA system.

Step-by-step guide

The room controller is connected to the projector, laptop/microphone connection panel in the room and wireless mic receiver in the black cabinet.

Use the touch panel to turn the projector on and off and display a laptop or video.

Power on projector and lower screen

  1. Select the Projector On button on touch panel. 
  2. Raise or lower the screen using the Rocker Switch. This is a 3-position switch: Up, Down, and Off (middle position).  The screen Rocker Switch is located on the West wall above the Room Controller, on your right as you enter the room.

Display a laptop via the Connections Plate

Bring your own laptop or borrow one from the Library

  1. On Touch Panel, select Laptop HDMI or Laptop VGA.
  2. Connect one end of the cable to the corresponding output on your laptop and connect the other end into the matching input on the wall connection plate.
  3. Turn on the laptop.

Audio for VGA:

  1. Plug a Mini cable into the matching Audio Input on the wall.
  2. Plug the other end of the cable into the laptop’s headphone jack.

Connections Plate HDMI Input Notes: HDMI and VGA/Audio cables are stored in left-side drawers of the back room (S4655).

PC Laptop display troubleshooting

No laptop image on screen?

  1. Hold down the Fn key and press F5 (or the key with a computer/monitor icon).
  2. Cycle through the settings and select an appropriate option. Wait a few seconds for the laptop to switch display modes.
  3. Mac laptop users are required to bring their own adapters and adjust their own display settings.

To display a DVD

  1. Borrow an external DVD drive from the Library or use a laptop with a built-in DVD player.

To play a DVD

  1. Connect laptop to Connections Plate and display it on the projector.
  2. Plug the external DVD Drive player's two USB connectors into the laptop.
  3. Insert your DVD into the player. Follow instructions accompanying external DVD Player.
    1. Open VLC Media Player software on the laptop.
    2. Select the Media Tab.
    3. Select Open Disc.
    4. Select Play (bottom-right corner of the Open Media window)

Setup a Public Address (PA) system - Wireless and Wired Microphones

Obtain the IGP wireless handheld mic or wired mics from the Library.
The mic’s matching wireless receiver is located in the black cabinet in the back room.

Select the Microphone Control button to play the Mics through the PA system. 

Wireless microphone

  1. Switch ON the handheld mic: a green light will illuminate.
  2. Place the microphone on the tabletop mic stand.
  3. If there is no sound: open the IGPTouch Panel, unmute the Wireless Mic and adjust the volume.
  4. Note: The wireless receiver is located in the black cabinet in the back room and remains powered on at all times.

 

Wired Microphone

  1. Borrow the required equipment from the Library:
    • Handheld microphone
    • Microphone stand with mic clip
    • XLR cable
    • Black gaffer tape
  2. Go to Gathering Place Connections Panel
    1. Connect one end of XLR cable into the microphone and the other end into XLR input on the Connection Panel.
    2. Setup microphone stand and place microphone in the mic clip.
    3. Use black gaffer tape to secure the cable and prevent tripping.
    4. Turn on the microphone (if it has a power switch).

Activate and control the built-in PA system

Use the Room Controller:

  1. Select the Microphone Control button on the Touch Panel: the Microphone Control page will open. Mics are muted by default.
  2. If using the wireless mic, select Mute to turn on the mic.
  3. If using the wired mic, select Mute to turn on the mic.
  4. Use the up and down arrows to set sound level.
  5. Select X (upper right) to close the Microphone Control page.
  6. On the Room Controller main page, adjust the overall room volume as needed.

Overall room volume

To adjust the volume on touch panel main page:

  1. Select the Volume up & down arrows to adjust the room audio level.
  2. You also have the option of selecting Audio Mute here.

PA breakdown

1. Turn off the wireless handheld microphone.

2. Return the microphone & stand to Library
